Technology! Here's how I started a new blog six days ago:
"It's Tuesday in Oz, which finds us at Cradle Mountain national park, a World Heritage Site (others are the Egyptian pyramids and the Grand Canyon). We got here by driving basically diagonally SE to NW across Tasmania, stopping first at a cool wild life sanctuary that is maintaining an "insurance" population of Tasmanian devils free from a nasty, infectious facial cancer that's killed off about 80% of the species (photos posted soon). We stopped elsewhere along the way for views, food .. And updates on the Seahawks win over The 49ers!"
Well, it's Saturday, and we're in Melbourne now … blogging seems such an easy thing until you don't have good internet, then it's not! Anyway, let's start back then, back at Cradle Mountain, a place that looks very much like the Cascade Mountains back home, full of huge ferns, old tall trees, granite peaks. That's if you don't look too closely, as the ferns, trees, shrubs, birds are all very different. Anyway, here's what Cradle Mountain looks like it good weather:
That's button grass in the foreground. Thing is, we didn't have good weather; in fact the day we hike up to Marion's Lookout, on the top of the ridge to the far right of the photo, it was cold, maybe 50 F with wind gusts up around 50 mph and blowing rain. So, this is kinda of what it was like:
Still, we enjoyed our time in the park, had some possums visit our cabin, and identified a few new birds, to boot!
