Uluru Appetiser

For our second adventure over the Easter/ANZAC Day holiday, we flew to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory; basically, smack dab in the middle of the country.  We arranged for a 3-night, 4-day tour of the area, with the "headline" attraction being Uluru.  Previously known as Ayers Rock, this sandstone monolith rises abruptly out of the immediate flat landscape (though we were surprised about how not-flat this desert is, more on that later), as if it were dropped there from space.  It's a very important spiritual site for the two Aboriginal language groups of the area, the Luritja and (I think) Pitjantjatjara.

We'll write more soon, but here's a little taste of the specialness of the area, sunrise at Uluru.

  1. There's an old TV miniseries called "A Town Like Alice" set in Australia. Wonder if there's any connection? Beautiful photos...........

  2. Yeah, I think it took place in part in SE Asia and in part in the Australian Outback, so probably Alice Springs.
